“In Pursuit of Excellence through Music Education”
Mission: To Aid in the Development of the Whole Student through Music Education
Hello! My name is Samuel Beeson, but feel free to call me Sam! I recently completed my final year of undergraduate study at Western Michigan University and received my Bachelor of Instrumental Music Education Degree. I’d love to get to know more about you, but first here’s some information about me and my focus areas:
Concert Band
Concert band is one of the most important facets of music education, and I am confident that my experience under many different conductors playing a wide variety of repertoire that I can provide a complete experience to my students. I played in the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Concert Band in 2019 on Trumpet and Timpani. I was also a member of the Western Michigan University Concert Band in the Fall of 2021 as Principal Trumpet, Principal Trumpet of Western Michigan University’s Symphonic Band in Spring and Fall of 2022, a member of University Symphony Orchestra in Spring 2023, and a member of Western Michigan University Wind Symphony in the Fall of 2023. Additionally, I have been a member of Quintessential Brass Quintet since fall of 2022, which has been an essential asset to my growth as a musician and an educator.
Marching Band
Marching Band is one of the very cornerstones of my love for music. It is an integral part to the development of a complete musician, and brings such vibrance to the students and the community alike. I’m also very experienced in this sector, having performed four years in high school, and two years at Western Michigan University in the Bronco Marching Band. In addition I have marched Drum Corps international for summer with Legends Drum and Bugle Corps in 2019, and two seasons with the Boston Crusaders in 2022 and 2023. I have also actively taught as a visual and brass caption head since the fall of 2019 at various schools. I am fluent in both Musescore and Sibelius to write Marching Band arrangements, as well as Pyware to write drill .
Composition and Arranging
Composition and arranging has been a passion of mine ever since I was a middle schooler, banging away at an old 66 key keyboard in my mom’s basement. I’ve since practiced and further honed my craft, and continue to be impassioned by the inspiration I find imagining an ensemble performing my work.
